My Little Sister Is Going For Swimming Lessons - loose weight ?

She is 12, and she has gained about 15 pounds withing 2 weeks. but it is NOT muscle.

I want her to stay healthy, and so does she. so she signed up for swimming lessons. they are for two weeks, 5 days a weeks, for 1 hour a day.

Will she loose some weight ?

  1. yes if its combined with a healthy diet.

    she wont lose weight if she goes to swimming and then comes home and eats a bag of chips. you know

    exercise + healthy diet=loose weight


  2. Be cautious putting a girl this age on a diet. Healthy eating habits are always important, like someone else said eating a bag of potato chips after swimming for an hour is a poor choice. Learning to listen to her body to know when she's full is also important.

    However, if she has just entered puberty or probably will soon this is the time in life young girls gain the most weight. This is to prepare the body for maturation and fertility. This also tends to happen right before a growth spurt in height. If this is the case the weight will "disappear" into her new height or turn into muscle if she keeps swimming.

  3. any exercise requiring some work will burn  cals therefore the weight should come down if a diet is also included !
