My Lop Earred rabbit has hot ears...?

I just got a rabbit. Lop Eared. 1 year old, a good 3 pounds, albino.

I noticed her ears are very hot, is that normal? I also noticed a huge ring of fat under her neck, like a double chin, but she isn't over weight at all, is that normal?

Any tips or info on these would be great.

(No unnecessary ignorance please)

  1. tip! its not nessecary to ask it here !!! you do know that you can ask a vet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was that so hard

  2. Female rabbits get a fatty thing under their skin called a dewlap.  There's nothing wrong with it, it's just a part of being a girl bun.  As long as her ears aren't bright red or having some kind of discharge, it's normal- I believe I've read that rabbits will cool themselves via their ears, and the vessels are close to the skin so it makes their ears warm.  (Lots of redness or discharge would indicate infection, when coupled with warmness.)

  3. every rabbit has hot ears you see rabbits don't have swet glands so all there body heat flows out of there ears and the ring of "fat" is just exo skin all rabbits have it so don't worry well i hoped i helped! : ]

  4. i agree with isabella, she's right, rabbits use their ears to regulate their body heat, and the roll of fat under the chin is normal for an adult rabbit.

  5. the rabbits fat under her neck is called a dewlap..female rabbits usually have it.

and hot ears may mean the rabbit is overheating i suggest when that happens get a wet paper towel and wipe them down or you can spray water on with a spray bottle...

    Good Luck!
