I opened one and it was all yolk like and she hasnt been sitting on them the past few days. Is it safe to assume they arent fertile?

  1. Propbably safe to say. Out lovebird pair at school(they are pastels) layed 3 eggs wtih a true lovebird pair. both male and female were present. All three eggs sadly were not viable and the female ended up rejecting them early on as well so even if they were fertile, she did not raise them enough. We are hoping they will try again as im planning to adopt one of the babies but so far the other pair(dutch blues) are the only ones producing fertile eggs. they layed 9 eggs before school ended. there were still 4 babies who were left without homs but im sure next year they will find homes when the students return :)

  2. the baby chics got hurt when it fell down onto th cage so hey wont hatch, leave it for a while

  3. i had the same problem :( there could be many reasons...

    1) the male bird isnt fertile

    2) the female just cant lay fertile eggs no matter what

    3) the female layed eggs without the male

my bird had antibiotics b/c of her injurie and so that prevented her from having babies. the vet never told us it does that i just think that is what happened to mine

  4. Let nature be and take it's course. Don't open up any more eggs.

  5. My female is sitting on some egges now. They are almost due to hatch. I candled them and There is fertility. I breed lovebirds and handraise them If you need any questions you can email me.

I have had that happen to me a year ago when I started breeding. Basically she didntt know how to sit on the eggs, and was always away from them and did her own thing. By the second try the instincs finally came through and now her babies are having babies. I only have two of my babies that i kept and got rid of all the other breeders. Well nature took it cource not knowing I had a male and female, and now the eggs are ready to hatch.

You need to understand that sometimes eggs are fertile but its the females fault especially when its their first time.

I know its frusterating, but believe me once they start producing they are like bunnies and keep going and going and going. Be patient, it will happen.

Also candle the eggs with a powerful flashlight and see if they are some that are developing.

    Good luck.

  6. sometimes the females lay eggs without a male bird. Its possible that there are no babies inside. If you have a male and a female leave them a bit longer. if not just throw away the eggs.
