Question:

My Mac partition ...?

Hi ... a year ago I bought a macbook with Tiger installed, and after the leopard was released I upgraded to leopard, now the mac partition has grown enormously large, only the OS is taking a whole partition of 40 GBs with nearly no free space, SO I was asking if I could increase the free space by deleting any unnecessary files, so can any one tell me what files could I delete or any thing that could help.

& thanx in advance...

  1. That is far too much disk space for Leopard.  Mine is using only 1/10 that much.  Try this:  First go to the Mac OS hard drive, Applications, Utilities.  Find "Disk Utility". Try to repair the disk.  If that doesn't work, you have to make bigger repairs.

Do you have an external hard drive you can mount?  Save all your files to that and try a "clean install" of Leopard.  That will erase everything on the internal hard drive, but you can install Leopard new.

I suspect that you did not get a good installation the first time.
