My Magnolia Stellata is looking very sad. Any tips?

Admittedly its in a large pot but isn't doing very well at all, I have fed it and kept it moist, but I am unsure as to what to do with it next.

I would take it out of it's pot to check if it's getting pot-bound, and if so, get a bigger pot or plant it in the ground.

Can you plant it outside? I think of this as a yard plant. Magnolias in general have shallow roots, plant it where the roots won't be disturbed. Water well if you move it outdoors in summer.
