I had a tech come out 2 times now due to here in Florida it gets extremly hot. The tech put a hard starting wire kit on my compressor to help with making it run. The other day the ac unit was blowing outside air in and thats about. The tech said the compressor was not coming on due a wire that was bad and he placed the hard start wire on it and its fine. I am curious if I should get a new ac unit or is it safe to have this wire kit on the unit? any advice would be great cause I have a newborn baby in the house and dont want the house to burn down. The ac unit is a all in one package. The unit is a 31/2 ton and a 10 seer.

  1. you dont buy a new car when you need new spark plugs.

as long as that compressor is chuggin along, keep it. it s not worth changing a new compressor though.

you ll be getting at least a 13 seer unit if you do get a new one, but wait til it burns out unless you have the 2500 or so to spend on it.

hard sart kit is not dangerous. it does the same as a capacitor thats already on the unit.

  2. Depending on how old the air conditioner is, I would replace it, we had an air conditioner that broke and we had a tech come out and fix it aswell, from then on the tech was back and forth trying to fix it, it would probably be wise to spend the money on a new air conditioner rather then having the tech you said come out more and more times. Sounds like your air conditioner may have more problems in the future.

  3. Would let it run as long as possible or at least till fall. There is always a chance a new AC could give you a problem after installation, especially if all components are not replaced...
