  1. You screwed up. That's why. In basic training, not a big thing.  In a tactical situation, men die. That IS a big thing.

  2. Marine Boot-camp is hard everything is for a reason.. You will find out why he acted the way he did

  3. Quit whinning and suck it up... nobody beat you up, you more than likely got yelled at, got embarrassed, and now you're whinning.  stop it!

  4. I highly doubt your DI actually beat you up.

EDIT - If this was 28 years ago, that's how things were dealt. The military has changed A LOT since then. Things, such as punishment, are dealt differently now. Beating a recruit (for any reason what so ever) would not fly in today's military.

  5. Yes, I hope you've learned your lesson. And thanks for your service.

  6. The Corps was very different 28 years ago. Then they could kick your a$$ for things like that and he may have very well been justified. It has been 28 years get over it. Now they baby the guys WAY WAY more than you could ever imagine. You should be proud that you survived the Corps when it was harder.

  7. my son is in marine boot camp right now straight out of high school

and if he drops his brass i hope the kick his butt i don't want him out on the line and dropping a grenade

  8. "how was this suppose to make me into a hard charging Marine?"

Perhaps to ingrain in your mind that if you make a mistake in combat it could kill you.

Thanks to people thinking Boot Camp should be a walk in the park and any physical or verbal reprimand is "abuse", we are forming a military with to many weak members that cry when they get called to serve their country. It's sad. Perhaps when the Democrats enact a "hug" army instead of our US Military and this country is attacked people will realize that being a part of the military means recruits have to deal with stress. Boot Camp (and ALL that is contained within it) is just another form of stress that recruits need to deal with in order to prove their ability to stand up under pressure. Not everyone can handle it and not everyone should hold the title of Marine.

  9. i doubt that

    not this decade

  10. Could he have faced charges? Yes. Should he have? No. I actually believe your story especially if it happened a while back. Boot camp back in the day used to be 1000 times harder. Although they aren't supposed to cuss and they definitely do they are also not supposed to even touch you but they do. They turn mama boys in to rough, feel no pain, killing machines that's their job and you gotta realize this. For instance one of the first things they do is scream, yell, and throw stuff right in front of your face to make sure you don't talk back, don't talk at all, don't flinch, and keep that straight military face. It toughened you up and maybe you still don't realize it but I bet you never dropped that brass ever again. They make these guys hardcore no matter what it takes to do it.
