My Maytag Electric Dryer just quit. Can someone help me out here?

It's an 6 year old dryer, never had a problem. Today it dried a load...But not completely, so I put the load in for another 30 minutes. Nothing. It was as though it was unplugged. But I heard the timer ticking. Checking the wires...I am getting power to it. So could it be the motor? Something more simple. Can anyone help me out here.i find no re-set switch. If there is one and you know where it might be...please let me know.

Thank you.

  1. One of the most common problems with dryers is the belt breaks.   Check underneath and see if belt is broken.  You can replace it yourself.

  2. Usually electric dryers (like hair dryers ) have an overheat sensor that will shut the unit down if it becomes too hot.  They are supposed to allow it to run again onces the unit cools off.  Sometimes, as they age, they will not reset after they cool off & must be replaced.  The location can vary, but if there is a diagram on it (or inside if it ) this will help you locate it.  Sometimes an appliance parts store can tell you where it is, & how difficult it would be to replace.

Also, if it is overheating, you may want to check the exhaust vent to make sure it is not full of lint.  This can cause a fire.

I hope this helps, good luck.
