I have one Memphis 12" sub (im pretty sure it is a M1) and it is put in a fiberglass ported box. Im running it with a MRP-M650 alpine amp. It used to work extremely well until recently when it began to make a rattling sound on certain pitches (the sub). The sound seems to be originating from the center cap in the middle of the sub. When I apply very little pressure (with my finger) to the cap the rattle goes away. Please help me.. Is my sub blown? I need to know so I can get it replaced before the warranty expires.

  1. The dust cap is probably coming unglued.  Or glue got so hot pieces started to break off inside the dust cap from the voice coil and those are bouncing around inside.   Probably not covered under warranty.  Good luck.  Buy a good sub next time.

  2. The sub isn't blown. the cap in the middle that is holding the sub to the coils is loose, and you should purchase a new cone which is a cheap replacement. The sub is being pushed, and memphis usually has great subs, but this one just got busted a little and it needs a new cone. the second problem that may or may not be there is with the wire connections. my speakers in my saturn vue rattled at certain bass hits, but that was just the positive and negative wires being loose on the clip they were on. It's a quick fix either way and your sub is not lost so don't worry.
