Question:

My Metabolism DIED!! I'm Practically in TEARS!?

I used to have a normal metabolism (I could eat 2500 cals of healthy foods & be 133 lbs) - I'm 5'10, 18 years old. I also walk for a half hour daily.

But ever since i went on vacation for during the last week, and completely gorged out on pasta and candy for the whole week (and none of my usual walking), I actually gained 5 lbs! This NEVER used to happen when I gorged on junk.

Now, my metabolism seems to be SHOT because I can't get the weight off even if I eat only 1800-2000 calories a day. I've been doing that & exercising for a week, & I've actually GAINED 2 lbs!

And not to be gross, but now I'm eating around 40 grams of fiber a day (from foods, to keep me full) & I'm drinking 64 ounces of water a day, but I haven't been able to...um, p**p, like I used to. (Sorry to be gross).

My stomach is also kind of distended & ALL the weight is going to my stomach!! My legs & arms are just as slim as before, oddly enough.

Please help!! I don't want to be one of those people who have to eat 1200 cals a day just to avoid being 300 lbs!!

  1. It sounds to me like you have to do a full body flush. Maybe go out to your local drugstore and get one of those total body cleansers, they'll make you *go to the bathroom* and flush all of the toxins out of your body.

Then, afterward, maybe up your walking routine to 45 minutes a day and see how that works out. And be sure to eat balanced, leafy/meaty meals.

  2. do a lot of sprinting and running (sprinting is running as fast as you can), this will "revive" your metabolism (1 mile a day should do the trick)

  3. Ashley's right - you need a colon cleanse (you can get more info on how to do this at Curezone)

  4. Go to the health food store and get a good cleanse program.  Usually they have boxes with two bottles inside.  One that will clean your liver and other organs and another that will help you have a bowel movement.  This should jump start your metabolism.

  5. um wow... hmmmm as for using the bathroom use a stool softener or something if that's the problem.. um i would just say try to stick closer to 15000-1000 calories per day and start jogging every day for about forty minutes... i am not an expert on metabolisms and gaining and losing weight so i am sorry if this didn't help... good luck!

  6. When I went on my honeymoon I had the same problem. My situation was a bit different because I was restricting my caloric intake prior to the honeymoon to below 1000 calories a day (totallly unhealthy), and then totally pigged out on the week long honeymoon.

by the time we got home, I had a majorly bloated stomach and had gained 10 pounds (in 1 week!). Like you, my legs and arms had stayed the same. I didn't have a "bowel movement" for a few days after, and the weight was not coming off even though I was eating less and exercising more. So I took a laxative, and continued to eat a healthy 1500 calories a day and within another week my weight had returned to just over what it was before I left for the honeymoon.

I think that the bloating in the stomach was just water retention, and also all the food backed up in my system which just really needed to come out. Sounds gross but its true!

Remember, laxatives don't actually make you lose weight or fat, but when you are not getting rid of wastes like your body should be, they do help.

    Hope that helps a bit!

  7. you can't get weight off by eating 2000 calories. 2000 is about normal to maintain weight. You need to go to around 1200 for a few days to a week, while exercising. and if you need to p**p, take a laxative. It may seem gross, but you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

  8. You just sound bloated. Don't stress about the extra pounds just yet.. and you're doing the right thing by eating lots of fiber and water. Its impossible to kill your metabolism in one week by eating too much, it's probably just your body reacting to the junk food you ate. Keep up eating fiber, and also try to cut down on sodium, it can make you retain water which makes you gain (water) weight and feel bloated like you do. Your stomach is probably upset from eating so much fiber (might want to keep it to about 30 grams, max), but I promise you didn't ruin your metabolism.

  9. You'll lose the weight eventually, even though you don't need to lose any weight at all. Counting calories won't help you.

    1 gram carbs =4 cal

    1 gram protein = 4 cal

    1 gram fat = 9 cal

How about a balanced meal three times a day with your 64 ounces of water. The key is balance.

  10. i strongly recomed going to the doctor becuase you might of picked up an illness.

  11. Its temporary.. your body is still showing changes from the excessive food. The results from your better eating and exercise will show up next week.

  12. It's Ok you need to calm down. You don't need to eat that low of calories.

You will actually weigh more if you don't have a bowel movement because everything you ate, and drank if you have not urinated much, is still inside of you.

You can't mess up your metabolism from eating too much food, you mess it up by eating too little food and over exercising. You should try watching your sodium intake, try to keep it around 2500 to 3000 mg. This will help the bloating. Make sure you have have soluble not insoluble fiber. I would recommend trying Fiber One cereal.

But don't worry you are totally fine, you can't gain that much fat that quickly unless you are eating 2000 calories OVER what you need (i.e. if you need 2500 you would have to eat 4500 to 5000 calories for about 2 weeks).
