My Miss Aurelia and Questing for a rematch in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic
With the Beyer Speed Figure of 96 earned by the first and second, My Miss Aurelia and Questing, allowed the two to detach from the small field in the stretch and make a race of it by stirring a great stretch duel to spark up things until the wire, but in the end, the Grade 1, $1 million Cotillion Stakes went to My Miss Aurelia, who kept her perfect record intact by staying undefeated in six career starts.
The type of rivalry My Miss Aurelia and Questing have developed, is healthy for the sport, and both connections after seeing the condition of their runners after the race have decided to reignite the rivalry at a world stage, and announced that the two will lock horns in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classics on 2 November, 2012, at Santa Anita Park.
The champion 2-year-old filly, My Miss Aurelia, trained by Steven Asmussen, won her third Grade 1 race of her career, and with no more stops to make until November, the Smart Strike filly will be rested and worked in Southern California, where she was scheduled to be flown on 24 September.
Asmussen announced that My Miss Aurelia came out of the Cotillion in perfect shape. Meanwhile, Kiaran McLaughlin reported that Questing came out of the race in good order, and is all set for the rematch.
Scheduled to do the bulk of the training at Godolphin centre at Saratoga, McLaughlin said that Questing conceded seven pounds to My Miss Aurelia in the Cotillion, and considering she lost to the winner by such a small margin speaks volumes of the filly’s ability.
“I agree with it for sure,” McLaughlin said. “So we have a seven-pound switch in our favour next time with her. We have others to be concerned about.”
“We are okay,” McLaughlin said. “It was a great race and we lost, but we’ve been on a great run and a little bit spoiled too.”
The Hard Spun filly ascended to the top of the 3-year-old filly division by nailing back-to-back grade 1 races, when she left her mark by winning the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks followed up by Grade 1 Alabama Stakes.
