My Miss Aurelia prepares for another grade 1 brace going for La Brea at Santa Anita
Steven M. Asmussen trained 3-year-old filly, My Miss Aurelia, turned in a gutsy performance in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic and finished second to last year’s champion, Royal Delta, at Santa Anita Park. My Miss Aurelia’s season isn’t over, as she is in search for another grade 1 win before she gets done with the year.
The Kentucky bred filly by Smart Strike is a multiple grade 1 winner, and had to endure her first defeat ever in seven career starts in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic, and now she will be eager to put together another string of victories starting from the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes.
Cutting back in distance to seven furlongs, the La Brea Stakes is for 3-year-old fillies, and will be run on the opening day at Santa Anita Park on 26 December, 2012.
My Miss Aurelia worked four furlongs in 48 3/5 seconds over Southern California facility's fast main track on 20 December, 2012.
Heavy contender to win the Eclipse Award as outstanding 3-year-old filly of 2012, Scott Blasi, who is assistant to trainer Steven Asmussen said that the filly should get as she went on to defeat Questing twice, once in the Cotillion and in the Ladies’ Classic.
Owned by Stonestreet Stables and George Bolton and bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, My Miss Aurelia has only raced thrice this season, but she was brilliant in each one of them. The bay filly made her seasonal debut in the Mandy’s Gold Stakes, and successfully completed the six and one-half furlong test in 1 minute and 15.90 seconds at Saratoga in August.
She returned to grade 1 company in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes, and stretching back to two-turns, My Miss Aurelia was unstoppable in a perfect trip where she ran many ragged, eventually overhauling Questing in second and Dixie Strike in third.
In the Ladies’ Classic, My Miss Aurelia went over 1 1/8 miles for the first time in her career, and was better than Include Me Out, who finished third on the day.
In the La Brea Stakes, My Miss Aurelia will have to contend with the graded stakes winner, Gypsy Robin, who is currently exiting victory in the Grade 2 Raven Run Stakes.
