My Miss Aurelia to square off with Stopshoppingmaria for the second time in the Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park
The Grade 1, $300,000 Frizette Stakes is part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” series, and the winner of the race will earn a paid trip to the Grade 1 Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies 4 November, at Churchill Downs.
The Frizette Stakes will commence on 8 October at Belmont Park, and with the Breeders’ Cup spot on the line and the two top ranked fillies in the country My Miss Aurelia and Stopshoppingmaria square off for the second time just adds intrigue to the Frizette
Stakes.
The 2-year-old daughter of Smart Strike, out of My Miss Storm Cat by Sea of Secrets, My Miss Aurelia is the only graded stakes winner in the field of 6 juvenile fillies.
Trained by Steve Asmussen for George Bolton and Stonestreet Stables, My Miss Aurelia won the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes at about 6 ½ furlongs at Saratoga on 14 August under jockey J Leparoux.
She is coming off a narrow victory over Grade 2 Matron Stakes winner Millionreasonswhy where she prevailed by a neck. My Miss Aurelia broke her maiden defeating Stopshoppingmaria by three lengths going 5 ½ furlongs.
Ahead of the Grade 1 Frizette the bay filly My Miss Aurelia turned in a strong six furlong breeze on 26 September clocking the distance in 1 minute and 12 1/5 seconds.
My Miss Aurelia is the 7 to 5 morning line favourite to win the Frizette Stakes, and trainer Steven Asmussen has assigned jockey Corey Nakatani to ride the unbeaten filly.
Trained by Todd Pletcher for owner Mike Repole, 2-year-old filly Stopshoppingmaria is the top number juvenile of the year as she earned a 101 Beyer Figure Speed when she blasted by 9 ¾ lengths to break her maiden at six furlongs at Saratoga.
She is the 6 to 5 morning line favourite in the Frizette, and to participate in the Frizette Stakes Todd Pletcher and Mike Repole skipped the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes to train the filly well for the target race.
It is going to be an exciting race just because the two top fillies are in it contesting for a spot in the Breeders’ Cup.
