My Miss Aurelia tops her four-on-four record with the 2011 Eclipse Award for champion two-year-old filly
The three-year-old My Miss Aurelia, a Smart Strike filly, out of My Miss Storm Cat, won the Eclipse Award for being the champion two-year-old filly which has made her four-on-four unbeaten record all the more desirable and note worthy.
“This filly we thought was the best yearling we had,” Barbara Banke, who runs Stonestreet, said “She was really a smart, good-minded filly, just had a lot of elegance and class about her at every stage”. This she expressed after the filly had won the
Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on 4th November 2011 at Churchill Downs.
Her trainer, Steve Asmussen said: “She wasn’t a secret at any stage. And she’s who you wanted in those spots. This is very fortunate to be in a position to have something like this walk into your barn. She has definitely stood up to the challenge and
proved to be extremely talented and well-minded and competitive”.
This filly turned out to be the first bursting success for Stonestreet breeding operation, and the name is getting popular and famous by the minute as it gets attached with the name of the trainer and the owner where ever the news goes.
All the four victories of My Miss Aurelia, seem almost effortless for her, and are equally divided between jockey J Leparoux and Corey Nakatani. At each race, the set of horses that fell into the second and third position were always different, thus
she never encountered any fierce rivalry which also contributes to her smooth journey to the Award.
After winning the special weight maiden on 22nd July, 2011 at Saratoga, My Miss Aurelia won the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes on 14th August, 2011 at Saratoga, raced over a distance of 6 ½ furlongs.
Her third attempt at racing turned out to be a Grade 1 Stakes which in itself was a reflection of her ability and the potential that she had displayed in the prior two races.
My Miss Aurelia won the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes on 8th October, 2011 at Belmont Park, raced over a distance of a mile, and less than a month she also won the monumental Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on 4th November,
2011 at Churchill Downs, on a 1 1/16 mile race track.
She has come this far only in a mere five months and four races which technically means that she did not race through an entire year. How much more is My Miss Aurelia capable of accomplishing will become more apparent once she starts racing this season.
