I was riding along today and after I made my errand, I went to start up the moped and the left brake wasn't making the moped start. The Moped is brand new and I got it going with the right break, whats is up with this thing? Also the left break works when driving.

  1. brake sensor may be out of adjustment on the left. when it is out of adjustment, the starter will be disabled. just re-adjust it and it will be working fine. otherwise, the sensor will need to be replaced.

  2. In some moped models, there is a button hidden inside, when it is not compressed, circuit is closed and the voltage is sent to start button. When this button is pressed, supply is connected to Starter motor for ignition. In most of the mopeds, this button is in right side but in right hand drive countries, it is in left side as the driver starts from right and in left hand drive from left.

So, this is the actual issue. The starter control button is on the right side only. In TVS Champ or XL series, the starting is controlled by Clutch lever below the left break. As every motor needs a governor and capacitor to start, the clutch; starter control switch etc acts as one.
