She said her Vet suggested it, but I never heard of that before.

So is it bad for them?

  1. Those are OK for PART of the dog's diet but not for all of their diet.  Dogs are carnivores.  They need high-protein diets and a variety of meat for optimum health.  A diet of cottage cheese and green beans over the long term will have detrimental effects on their health.

  2. If the vet recommended it then there was a reason for it. Chances are it's temporary. My opinion is how can it be bad if the vet actually recommended it?

  3. The dog may be on some temporary diet for weight loss or due to an illness.

Veggies & cottage cheese are fine to feed. For any length of time it likely would not meet all of the animals nutritional needs.

For snacks, we offer raw carrots & the dogs love them.

On numerous occassions vets have suggested bland diets with rice, broth, veggies and yes-cottage cheese.Generally for an old or infirm animal.

  4. If it's all the dog gets for each meal, then it's bad. If it gets that along with kibble, then it's perfectly fine.

  5. Cottage cheese is fine... I don't see how string beans would benefit, as they're only fillers, but they wouldn't hurt either.

It's not bad unless that's all she ever eats.  Cottage cheese and string beans are not a balanced diet... I'd imagine the vet suggested this only for a small length of time, not permanently.

  6. dairy can kill!

  7. yes that's very bad! dogs are lactose intolerant and dairy gives them HORRIBLE gas and upset stomachs. green beans have little nutritional value to dogs, and if anything only provide small amounts of fiber. dogs MUST have a diet made with a majority of meat in order to survive... it's not optional. dogs need meat! dogs and cats are obligate carnivores (meaning they don't gain nutrients from vegetables and grains, this would also include dairy). this dog is going to die a painful death due to malnutrition if his diet does not change soon!

  8. All dogs are not lactose intolerant. Both of my dogs get a smidgen of milk nearly every day, and it has never bothered either one of them. Green beans are actually good for the dog. One of my dogs actually even loves english peas, but he won't touch a green bean with a ten foot pole.

If you check it out, the better dog foods contain things like cottage cheese, apple chunks, carrots, garlic, sweet potatoes, potatoes, green peas, etc., and I don't mean Iams, Alpo and the other so-called "good" brands you can get at Walmart. The ingredients are basically the same as Old Roy. One thing a dog should never eat is chcolate and onions, they are toxic to dogs. Check out Taste of the Wild, Artemis and Innova dry dog foods.

  9. Must be something new.  I wouldn't but that's just me.

  10. well the green beans are fine my friends mom does that, but cottage cheese is bad cause are digest systems are different.

  11. Cottage cheese has a lot of good fats in it and is quite healthy. The beans are good as well. I feed beans to my dogs to prevent tear stains under their eyes. Very very few dogs are actually lactose intolerant, that's just what the pet food companies want you to think. Its an old myth that needs to end.

  12. ~ Yea, that is bad.  If that is all the dog is eating, isn't it grossly underweight?  Was it overweight to begin with?
