  1. Local area network = what you are plugged into.  The other would be for wireless.

    Also stop looking at p**n.

  2. Your computer may be running slow due to a virus or it may just be old. Having a fast Internet connection does not guarantee fast loading, it is limited by the processing power of your computer. The network utilization will always be 0% if you are using a router because you are not directly connected to the internet, and the local area connection is at 100% because you are using your router's created network to connect to the Internet. Hope this helps.

  3. First off, T1 isn't that fast.

Network utilization should show how busy the network is for each network interface you have in your computer.  If your on a shared LAN than it would be normal to see constant activity there.

Local area connection indicates activity created by your network connection.  Generally speaking that should go to zero if you just watch it, yet don't do anything with the computer.

If I was to guess, you have a wiring problem.  Without knowing more about your network it's difficult to speculate where to start looking.

I'm assuming you have an Ethernet connection to a switch or hub that connects to a router that connects to your T1 line.  Assuming that's right, I'd start by checking your Ethernet wiring.  It should be CAT5E twisted pair.
