My New Skateboard Setup!??!?!?!?

Hi everyone,

So I've just decided to start skateboarding again after 3 years (yeah I know, It's been way too long)...

I've purchased this setup:

Plan B deck 7.75"(AJ Ladd)

Independant trucks Lo 5.0, 7.75" (series 10)

Bones 'Reds' Bearings

Ricta Bolts 'White Lightning' 51mm Wheels

(Lucky risers [1/8"], Lucky hardware [1-1/8"])

Jessup Griptape

I've Ridden a Flip deck, Darkstar deck, and MiniLogo deck, and I hear a lot of good things about Plan B's (although I've never seen or ridden one)

I've ridden Royal, Grindking, and Tensor trucks in the past and I liked them all, but the royals were d**n heavy, the grindkings were light but flimsy, and the tensors were average. Anyone have opinions or experience with Independent trucks? A lot of people love them, but a lot of people seem to hate them...

I've used 'Reds' before, and they seemed alright.

I've only ever used Spitfire and Darkstar wheels, how are Rictas? (The ones I got are 51mm, and apparently very hard)

My main concern are the trucks, I'm getting a lot of mixed thoughts about them, a lot of people use indies, but it seems people that haven't used them tend to say "Blahhh they're too heavy and they break!!!)

Opinions, or a rating on this setup, anyone? Thanks a lot.

  1. Sounds very good.  I'm concerned I'm a few things, though.

    - Risers. 1/8" is not thick enough for most people (unless you're using interior padded wheels) I would use 2/8" or even 3/8"

    - Wheels. If I were you i wouldn't buy Rictas. Ever (XD). Stick with Spitfire.

    - And last, and definitely least the grip tape.... Jessup rubs and tears to easily in my opinion (not that it matters much Lol)

And about the trucks, indies are fine. Most people that don't like them have never used them. I find using indies much smoother.

  2. I too have just started to skate again after about 2 years break from it because i was busy with college and work. I have never heard anything about them but i have seen them and they have alot of great skaters skating for them. And PJ Ladd signature board is pretty nice. Independence trucks are really tuff and lightweight kodos there i always go with independence. Bone barrings are always good one of the best barrings because they are good for speed and can stand up to alot of pressure. I dont really have a preference for wheels i usually just get matching wheels. I am not a big fan of risers all they do is raise the board a little for they trucks and they are hard i usually get stress pad because the absorb the shock so they board gets less stress and causes less stress fractures in the board. I always pefer lucky hardware. And for griptape i go with black magic. All in all i would give your set up a 8 boards out of 10.
