  1. that's crazy talk.  of course you can.  i have iron maiden's eddie on my back - i mean my WHOLE back, including part of my right butt cheek.  i recently had light lipo and was able to get that done just fine, and the surgeon made sure to not stab eddie in the arm with the canula.  see, cuz i told him if he did, he'd be singing soprano in the vienna boys choir.

i was kidding of course.  or was i?

  2. WTF DO YOU WANT A NEEDLE TO STAY IN YOUR BACK???

  3. By needle I am going to assume you are referring to an epidural?  I should say that if you are brave enough to endure the painful procedure of getting a tattoo (aka: the repetitious piercing of your skin with a needle in the same localized area for the sake of "art") then with or without the epidural you should be able to muster through Natural Child Birth.  It is best for your child anyway.  I have never heard that you couldn't get an epidural if you have a lower back tattoo sounds like an Urban Myth in the making, but even if you can't have an epidural, they have other good pain meds that they could give you rather than inserting a needle into your spine, that is if you decide to go that route.  My advice, wait until after you have any babies to get any tattoo work done... your body stretches in ways you couldn't even possibly begin to imgaine when you are pregnant, and what a loss it would be to get a tattoo, have it get stretched and possibly scarred, and then have to wear something ugly (even if it is on your back) for the rest of your life.

  4. ow... that sounds like it'll hurt. Maybe the tattoo and no needle, or needle later.

  5. you should wai tto get it or get it in a different spot ccuz when you give birth your gonna want the needle

  6. you can get an epidural through a lower back tattoo, that's just a false rumor

  7. it's an urban myth.

you can get an epi with a tattoo

  8. alsome

  9. You can definitely still get an epidural if you have a tattoo on your back, that is such a silly myth.

I have had two children and I got an epidural with both of them no problem at all with the tattoo on my lower back, don't worry.

  10. Thats an urban myth. If a doctor refuses to perform one, then its because their afraid of messing up your tattoo and dont want to be sued.

  11. In my opinion you should wait till after u give birth, and then get the tattoo. Patience is a virtue

  12. hope so

  13. Speaking from experience from having tattoos and having FIVE children and having two epidurals, yes, you can still have an epidural and have a tattoo in that area. there is nothing that says that tattoos prevent getting epidurals.

So, no, it isn't true. Most pregnant women who have lower back tattoos can receive epidurals. The exception would be if the tattoo covers a large area and is still "fresh" — meaning the involved skin is still healing. Actually, very few studies have looked at the risks of epidurals in women with lower back tattoos. But there is no conclusive evidence of any adverse effects, such an increased risk of an infection.

Most anesthesiologists will give an epidural block to a pregnant woman with a lower back tattoo. However, they may try to avoid placing the needle through the tattoo to avoid a small scar that may disfigure the tattoo. If possible, the anesthesiologist will insert the needle through skin that isn't tattooed.

If you have a lower back tattoo and have questions or concerns regarding your ability to get an epidural, consult your doctor.
