My PC has become stuck at 97% during scan-disk operation at the start of booting up. ?

There appears no escape from this blue screen other than switching it of at the base , and that I believe has brought into operation the scandisk at the first instance ? How do I get back to normal stable boot up ?

Maybe your hard drive is dying. You are right, scandisk is initiated by an illegal switch off. But if it can't do it's job it is likely the drive is iffy.

I assume you have backed up all your vital files to a stand alone hard drive? If not you have some loss to accommodate. You can either fit a new hard drive (cheap). See the net for tutorials. Or take it to PC World for hopeful file retrieval and a new hard drive (expensive).
