  1. talk to a vet.

    ps 14.2 IS a pony.

  2. i would call a farrier and get her hoves done just to be on the safe side as horses hoves can chip or crack if they are on the wrong ground without shoes (like "rocky mountains", concrete or anything that uses alot of stress on the hoof.)...  http://www.horsehoofandfootproblems.com/...

oh and btw any hight of 14.2hh or under is a pony, any thing above is a horse.

    Hope that helps!

  3. depends on how hard is hooves are, or he's prone to cracks. If he's never had any problems and he's got hard hooves. I'd leave him barefoot. It's not like you're on tar, it's just soft dirt.

  4. If your pony is going well barefoot, I would not recommend shoeing him.

However, if you are having issues with chipped hooves and/or unsoundness you would be best off to have a farrier or hoof care specialist come out and evaluate your pony's needs.

Once you have your horse shod you should be prepared to have him reshod every 6-8 weeks.  Many people with barefoot horses are not used to that expense and think they can wait longer between shoeing.  Unfortunately this creates a very unhealthy situation for the horse and can lead to severe lameness.

    Good luck!

  5. My pony jumps without shoes. It depends on the horse, wether its hooves are up to it. My pony has never had shoes, so its hooves are tough and strong. Your horse may need shoes depending on how long it hasn't had shoes. I would suggest asking a farrier or a vet.
