Question:

My PS1 games won't work on the PS2 and are scratched anyway...shall I get a new game?

None of my PS1 games work on the PS2 or PS3, they all say 'disc read error' - I've tried cleaning, using tape etc. but it still doesn't.

My FFIX game is really scratched and doesn't work properly; I've been playing disc 1 (dunno where disc 2 is) on the PS1 but it resets randomnly and the cutscenes don't work.

Is it just my games or could the PS1 be playing up to?

And my birthday's coming up: I /really/ want to play FFIX again so should I ask for another copy (the cheapest I've found is £30) or would it be more worth it to ask for FFVII/FFVIII or something?

Or would my PS1 muck up anyway?

Thanks!

  1. YES INSTEAD GET A PS3 OR A WII, IF YOU REALLY WANT THEM GET PS2 GAMES INSTEAD.

  2. You could probably find a PS1 on ebay for almost nothing. Go that route.

  3. It depends on how deep the scratch is it may have destroyed the data layer so it cannot read the disc try a game that is not scratched and see if it works if it doesn't the ps1 is broken probably the laser.

  4. This could be a problem with your PS1.  Electronics, especially game systems, get VERY dusty inside.  This dust not only coats the lense, but gums up the works in the lense mechanism itself.

Two things you can try before re-buying an expensive game:

1: Take your system apart and clean it out.  There are tutorials on how to do this all over the web and I inclluded on in my sources

2: Get your discs resurfaced.  This can sometimes "heal" the scratches, making it playable again.  (You can get discs resurfaced at many used media shops or video rental stores)

If you saving money isn't an issue with you, then just get a PS3 and buy the game again :)

  5. i dont think you need to get a new game...

the only reason why they are probably not working is because they are scratched..

you can just take the game to a game crazy store and they will fix it for you for only five dollars.

some of my games were scratched and thats what i did and now they are working again...
