Question:

My PS3 no longer works with the S-Video cords after having used HDMI. Whats wrong?

I just purchased the new Madden 09 game, so of course I rushed home to check it out. Only to find that I had left my HDMI cable roughly 180 miles away. So, I was forced to give it a shot with the regular S-Video cords.

Now, heres the problem: It doesn't appear to work! I know the S-Video cords work, as I had origionally used them to play when I first purchased the PS3. BUT, I after a while I decided to purchase an HDMI cable to get the full effect.

Ever since I used the HDMI cable, every attempt to use the PS3 with only the S-Video cords have failed. Nothing shows up and the PS3 is not recognized.

NOTE: I have tried the PS3 on several different TV's with the S-Video cords. So I doubt it is the TV.

Any ideas?

  1. Turn off your ps3 by means of the power button near the disc slot. Hold it for 5 seconds. Then, turn off the main power switch (at the back of the PS3). Then, say after 20 seconds, turn on the main power switch and press the power button again. The settings should be set to the s-video wire.

  2. i had the same problem, it's not your tv. the ps3 is still sending the signal through the hdmi output.it automaticly upgrades your signal when you hook it up with the hdmi cable, but you have to manually set it back. you do this on the output settings on the settings menu. how you do that without a picture on your screen, i don't know. and if you get another hdmi cable you wont need to, it's a catch-22.

  3. Iff you mean that none of your TV's are detecting your PS3's existance even though its plugged in properly,

Theres a high chance theres a problem with the graphics hardware inside the PS3, witch can also cause the actual main brain of the PS3 to mess up aswell.

Its the same as a PC.  Iff you put too good of a graphics card in it and you dont have the Watt for that graphics card,  It will work for a couple of months then your monitor will not function...

Because you've basicly burnt the Graphics card witch can also effect the motherboard.

Meaning you need a MASSIVE repair and Watt upgrade ...

Iff you bought it second hand,  The person you bought it from as built it incorrectly.

Iff you bought it from a proper store,  You'll find that every single one of those PS3's that came from the same factory's will occur to have the same problem...

    I hope this helped.

    Hani :)

  4. Be sure the PS3 is set to output video via S-video

  5. holed the start button on the ps3 while its on for really long. Keep on holding it after it beeps once, and then it will beep again and that will restore the output settings. Thats what the woman told me to do at the store when that happened to me and it worked.

  6. i had the same problem.  qor and robin b have it right.  hold down the power button and it'll reset your video settings.

depressed doesn't know what he's talking about.

  7. 1 is correct but you just have to hold the power for five seconds and it will beep twice and then it should go back to normal display
