I have to new baby (4-6 months) parakeets at my dad's house it's rodent free but i'm thinking about bringing it to my mom's house but there's one problem, my mom has these mice that keep coming in from outside from some hole will they come after my parakeet to try to eat them or will the food attract them?Or will they be afraid of the parakeets vice versa.

  1. if you are that worried about the mice, they carry diseases ,don't bring baby birds into that home, leave them at dads, all the parakeets need to do is  land on the floor and eat the food off the floor and become sick and die,the rodents won't eat them, but they will die from their sickness they carry!

  2. Please find the hole the mice are coming in at, and put Brillo pads in the hole. Mice can not chew through the steel wool  pads.  Mice and rats carry what is called the Hanta virus which is contagious to Humans and animals as well.

Do NOT hang a bird cage.  It makes birds very unstable in their living enviroment. Make sure the area around the cage is kept clean at all times and don't feed a seed diet.  This not only limits the amount of rodents, but also gives your birds a proper diet and allows your birds to live a longer healthier life.  They should be fed a diet of pellets, a variety of veggies, pasta, cheese, fruits, meats, and legumes.  The foods are not limited to these foods but should be fed what you eat.

Do NOT feed them avacodo's, chocolate, fruits seeds or pits, or caffiene.

If you need help to convert them over to this diet, feel free to ask me.  I'm more then willing to help you convert them.  This also will help keep rodents away from a tasty meal themselves.

  3. I doubt that the mice would go up and attack the parakeet since a rodents natural enemy are birds. My parakeet lives beside my hamster and they seem fine. my curious little hamster tries to climb into the cage once in a while too,. its fine they don't mind each other and as long as you keep your parakeet up high it'll be okay.

  4. I wouldn't worry about it but try putting traps on the floor around the parakeets cage, so that the mice are more interested in the traps and bate, instead of the bird. I wouldn't worry though because Rats and Mice do not eat birds, they more like scavangers. Try putting the birds cage on a dresser or your can hang the bird's cage on a strong hook thats attached to the ceiling, and hang it from there. If your bird is comfortable and fine, don't sweat it. Your bird is going to be a little stressed out anyways because your bringing the bird to a new home. So I think your bird is going to be a little bit more stressed out from the move, instead of the Rats and Mice in your room. Hoped I helped and Good Luck!!!

  5. I have parakeets at my moms house. two. We live by the beach. There TONS of mice and rats. As long as there in a cage high up or with a stand, theyll be fine.
