My pet rat has a tumor under it's leg. It is not real big, and she is really active. Does anyone know how fast it will grow? because I am going on vacation for 3 days and I am worried that it will grow.

  1. Have you been to the vet with her? The growth rate depends on what kind of tumor it is. My guess would be that it wouldn't grow much if at all while you're on vacation. A neighbor or friend is watching her while you're on vacation, right? Maybe they can call you if the tumor grows while you're away. I'd be able to answer this a lot better if I knew what kind of tumor it was.

  2. You need to take her to the vet IMMEDIATELY! Yup...

  3. Are you certain it is a tumor. It might also be an abscess or cyst.

I first suggest you determine what it is for sure. Use these sites to figure out what it is most like, and also learn about it.

Only in the case of an abscess do you need a vet for sure. These will nto necessarily grow, but the infection will worsen. I suggest you take her to a vet before going away in this case.

Tumors and cysts are long-term issues. They both grow slowly. Tumors can not be helped without surgery. Surgery is pretty risky, and expensive however. Some cysts might need vet care depending on the type, but others are just like tumors, can only be removed through surgery. But in these cases contact a vet anyway to see what can be done. Usually, the rats can live with tumors and cysts for a while, but you would need to euthanize them if they get too bad.

  4. well they can grow at a fast rate, dont let it get to big though if you are planning to remove it,my rat has three she is very old  and they are to big to remove so i might get her put to sleep.

  5. I think your rat will still be ok when you get back. Tumours dont grow really fast and you probably wont even notice much of a difference in the size when you get back.
