When I reduce the volume on the radio itself or on the stalk it keeps going back to maximum. Is it the radio or the stalk causing the problem

  1. it could be the k**b/button on the radio, or it could be a short in the stalk

on radios that have steering wheel controls sometimes those wires get messed up and in one of my old cars when ever you turned the steering wheel to the left the volume would go to max, i just disconnected it and had no more problems

  2. I don't know what the stalk is, but you may have preset your volume level to maximum for when traffic reports or news items are received.

If "stalk" is a name for the remote control on the steering wheel, try disconnecting that temporarily to see if it cures the problem.

  3. most stereos are just 3.5mil jacks for the stalk... maybe the jack has come out slightly... alternatively. if its buttons on the player a bit of c**p could of got in there stickin the button.,..
