He was on the wall of the tank and behind the heater when it came on, and now he had a burn about the size of a quarter. My pleco, hes about 6 inches, but that's a big burn. He doesn't seem to mind it all that much, but There's a parrot fish, a small angel fish and a blue goby dragon in the tank and I dont want him getting hurt. I've had him for over a year and I'm quite attached.

  1. You have 2 choices the way I see it:

    1. Set up a quarantine/hospital tank & keep the water super clean. Treat with Melafix. (Best option)

    2. Keep him in the current tank but you will really have to keep up with water changes and make sure that water stays pristine. You can treat the whole tank with Melafix but you'll have to remove any carbon from your filter or it will just get sucked out. You'll also have to watch out for the other fish picking at his injury.

    Good luck.

  2. My plec always does this. He sits next to the heater when it's already on and then just stays there to burn!

Mine quite a few years old now....maybe 5? and he's around 8 inches.

I would think that if he was hurting himself he would move. I was worried about mine at first but he's still here...maybe they have rather thick skin!
