My Poor Mare !!!!?

Question

My mare lost her Baby the day after she was born ! I fill so

bad for her. We still couldent figure out what happened. She

was eating and she looked fine ! If anyone could give me any

ideas please help me ! Thank-x

hey, i had a mini mare that had the same problem but she waz a first time mother!!! and we had no idea she was pregnant!!!!

But wat you could do is try to keep her intertained!!!! like get her out of the stall or pasture more often and keep her busy so she won't think about it!!!!!

but if she doesnt' seem upset then i would leave her alone!!!!! some horses are more disturbed by the loss of a baby then others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so  i hope this helps!

Sometimes it just happens, you are lucky that you still have your mare.  Usually, a foal dies because it took too long to be born or there was some other inherit health problem that would have been a problem in the end anyway...doesn't make it any easier, but nature has it way of dealing with certain circumstances.

Has a vet seen the foal? Dying so soon after birth is a sign of something serious. Both mare and foal should be seen by the vet, the vet may well recommend an autopsy on the foal to find out the cause of death. I'm sorry for your loss, but animals understand better than we think, your mare will be sad but she will have known her baby was ill.

That happened to a friend's horse last year.  Baby was fine and then within a few days it just died.  It had been eating, running, acting totally normal.  They never did figure out what was wrong with it.  That same mare foaled again this year and the foal is perfectly healthy and is now a couple months old.  It's hard to say what happened, I don't think there is always a very definitive reason, unfortunately, at least not one that we can find.

Try to find her a foal whos mother died so she can still have a baby to take care of if you have the money to do so =[ that's so sad and i'm sry to hear that

You should call the vet, and let him/her look at the mare to see if he can see anything wrong with her that didint affect her, but might have affected the baby.
