Question:

My Puppy needs a good toy!?

I have a 7 month old puppy. She is a lab mix. When we brought her home 3 months ago, I gave her a stuffed dog that I've had for years. She finally chewed the toy puppy up. Now we have another problem. The two cats we have are about the same size as the puppy she had. She seems to think that the cats are the puppy. The other day she had one of the cats head in her mouth. We don't' think she is being mean, we just think she's playing with her "toy".

Does anyone have any suggestions as what I could get for her? She seems to like to wrestle. I don't want something that she could demolish in 5 min.

Any advice would be appreciative. Thanks.

  1. A Kong. they have different sizes for different dogs and they last forever. You stuff it with peanut butter or the special treat they have at pet smart for it. All dogs love this.

  2. I would go to a Petsmart or Petco and take a look around.  Maybe also getting one of the meat flavored Nylabones to keep her occupied.  Some dogs are into Kongs and others aren't...so  you may be to try a few different toys before you find her "favorite".

  3. Get a pet treads tire.

I would really recommend it to anyone, my Border collie/lab mix destroys toy all the time, and I got it to try it out.

The rubber is really tough, and the little treads clean the teeth and gums, you can even put kibble inside the ring to keep them busy.

They are worth the money they last forever, they have all different sizes.

Oh yeah, and I was looking us some things the other day, and I found this "Indestrucatable ball" basically, its a huge ball thats really though, your dog can tackle it and chase it all it wants, without breaking it. I never tried it, but it looks really good!

  4. Our lab is now 9 months old.  I have only found one toy she can't demolish besides a kong.  It is a spiky hard rubber ball that you can hide treats in.  It's like $5 at Petsmart, also a nyla bone if you can get her to take interest. Rope toys seem to keep ours occupied also. Good luck, feel free to email me if you need anymore advice!

  5. nyla bones are excellent my dogs play with them as well as roll around on the floor with them and dump them on my lap as though they are inviting me to have a nice chew on them.

Kong toys are also great you can put a little peanut butter in the center and they love it.When they drop the kong it bounces all over the place and makes for a lot of fun chasing it on there own-this to is indestructible.maybe a few in different sizes might help. I only allow my dogs stuffed toys when I am playing with them because they knock the stuffing out and eat it,but we have a great time playing with them together then I put it away. Go to a yard sale and get stuffed toys bigger than her and let her wrestle with it only while you are there to stop her from tearing it apart-if she starts to rip it up take it away, but give it back when you can control the situation.Tilks Mom

  7. give her a ball or a chew toy that's very strong and durable.  Don't give her stuffed animals.

  8. i like the kong line of toys strong hold up to alot of chewing and most of them can be stuffed with treats to hold the dogs interest

  9. Ropes with knots only thing my dogs don't destroy and toys made of tires

  10. My six month old lab just tore out a tree and she  seems to be pretty entertained. This tree can probably be replaced with a large bone from a pet shop. My dog also absolutely loves chewing barbecue ribs(without the barbecue) and the chewy bones found in pet shops.
