'Electronic Private Automatic Branch Exchange". This is a mini exchange in which you can input 2/3/4/more telephone lines and can take out so many outputs. This feature depends upon the model that you choose.

By using this, a single telephone  in your desk (just an example) can be connected to any input line by simply pressing a particular number button. More details can be had from  web sites like google/yahoo, etc. It's beyond the scope of this letter, because the whole explanation will occupy so many pages.
