I have what I thought was two male Quakers, but apparently not since one just layed an egg. I am not sure if this if fertile or what to do about it. They don't have a nesting box and she layed it right ontop of their cage. If I put it in a box I don't think they will care for it since they are scared to death of anything new in their cage. Also, the male seems to be attacking the egg? And the female is then attacking him. They are stepping all around the egg and I don't know if they will break it. Any advice? I am not a breeder and do NOT know what to do about eggs. Please help! Thanks.

  1. ask a vet wont to do

  2. This is a situation where you should not attempt to place the egg in the cage because if you know for sure that the other bird (the one that did NOT lay the egg) is a male than these eggs can be fertile. They will also not have a good chance on being properly incubated since you have not set up a nest box for them. What to do with the egg??? You can take it from them if they are bickering over it, it would be best to dispose of it now before a chick begins to form (this would only happen if she had a safe place to incubate it properly). If there is any possibility you have 2 females than you will not ever have to worry about eggs being fertile, you could have him dna'd if you want to know now for sure (I will provide a link to the co. I use for dna sexing they will send you a kit for free)
