i came back into town yesterday and picked up my rats from the caretaker this morning. I looked at them and noticed blood on one's neck. It's not very much but it is definitely a scratch and not something else. My mom doesn't want to take her to the vet but I'm so scared. What do I do? Should I put her in the small spare cage? Then what? should I get her a new companion so she doesn't get lonely? please help me

  1. If it's a very small scratch, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Does she seem happy and healthy?

If she's not acting like herself, consider taking her to the vet. Otherwise, just keep a close eye on her and her other ratty companion and see what happens.

If it seems to be getting infected, put a dab of peroxide or a tiny bit of a gentle cream like Polysporin on it. Only leave it on temporarily so she or other rats don't l**k it off. Also make sure to keep their cage very clean until the wound heals.

  2. they were probably fighting.

you should the one with blood in a different cage.
