Question:

My Rat wont go in the cage easily

my rat is a pain to get back into the cage once its let out. any help on trying something so its not an hours battle to get him in the cage. he doesnt enjoy being caught and i dont enjoy catching him. my other rat is perfect. he just waits to be picked up.

  1. You shouldn't have a problem catching the rat, if you do you have a worse problem then getting it into its cage. It doesn't trust you enough to let you hold it. You need to work on holding it, try feeding it while you hold it. Once it is comfortable with you doing that you will have a much easier time catching it, and you won't struggle to get it into the cage.


  2. The more you catch and handle you rat the easier it will be. Maybe the rat doesn't like the cage because it is too small, not clean enough, not enough stimulation etc.  

  3. Put him in his cage and then give him a snack like a grape or carrot and over time he will be more willing to go in his cage.. it worked for me

  4. you have to pick him up and put him back in. you cant just let him run around willy nilly or he will never realize your incharge, not him. If you need to then lour him back in the cage or into your hands with a piece of fruit or another snack he can eat. dont be afraid to pick him up and if he bites wear gloves.

  5. Put food in the cage then slam the door behind him
