  1. It won't bask until if feels comfortable in its new home. Give it time.

If you want something to play with, get a puppy. Turtles don't do well if handled and there is always the chance of your contracting Salmonella.

  2. its very common for a new turtle to not bask when its introduced to a new environment.  it feels safe in the water.  in time it should bask.  as long as it has an opportunity to be under the uv light then its fine.

    about playing...

it really depends on their personalities.  ive had turtles that dont want anything to do with you and ive had others that are almost like dogs.  My turtle (Tommy) that recently passed on would follow me around and was comfortable sleeping on me.  so i would definately get your turtle used to handling so you two can be best buds.

  3. I have one too. Max is his name. He just recently started basking. They hardly ever bask when there little. He's almost a year old. When he gets older he will.

    :]

Well not really. Their not the playing type. You can put him in your lap and he'll run and you can pick him up. But make sure to wash your hands when your done. He or she might have salmonella.

  4. I had two red eared sliders for about 5 years and they would go through times when they would bask alot and then not at all...that is when you observe them. at night when it is quiet and dark they seemed to get up on the shelf i made and bask. then when i would come down in the morning i would find them cuddling under the heat lamp. dont be alarmed if they dont bask. as long as they remain healthy there is nothing to worry about.
