For Christmas I purchased a Robo Dwarf hamster from Petsmart. Recently he been running around and around and around. I've also noticed that he hasn't been using his wheel as much as he used to be.

What's wrong with him? Is he dying?

  1. Well i am not sure if it means the same thing for a hamster as a guinea pig but when my Guinea pigs run in circles it means that they are comfortable with their surroundings. He may not be using his wheel because he may be getting older. Hope I could help!!

  2. Is his cage big enough? Too small a cage and lack of stimulation can lead to these 'Circus Ring Motions'. Throw some clean leaves in the cage- this brings many exciting new scents for the hamster. Take him out more often and let him run around in a ball.

  3. First of all don't worry your hamster is not dying It sounds like your hamster may have had a stroke as my hamster is doing the exact same thing and the vet said he had a stroke if this is the case they normally recover quite well it means the balance in his brain is a little off but as long as he is eating and drinking ok he should recover, if he is not then take him to the vets. If not a stroke then your hamster might have an ear infection which your vet will prescribe antibiotics.

Hope this helps and I hope your hamster gets better! Good luck x
