My tort hasn't gone #1 in about a week and a Wash him twice a week and keep his cage moist and keep water in it, he can acess it. Is it because I'm feeding him whatever is in the backyard?

I usually let him out before I feed him and he eats untill he is full.

He is active and I'm sure he is not dehiderated.

  1. Just out of curiosity, how do you know it has not urinated? The stuff is like water when they are healthy, and they often do it in the water dish.

You keep his cage moist? While they like a little humidity overall and often like a humid hide, they generally don't like high humidity overall or moist cages. I also don;t recommend soaking or washing a tortoise that often.

  2. he might be affected by what he is eating out back........... try some commercial diet food.

  3. Are you sure he isn't going to the bathroom while out in the yard?  He needs a balanced diet with vitamins and minerals.

  4. a russian tortoise needs a fairl dry enviroment if you keep his cage moist then you could end up with shell rot, if you are seeing white patches around the cage or garden your tortoise is weeing, you don't need to bath him twice a week just once, russian tortoises do not like water much so too much bathing will stress your tortoise, if your tortoise is not weeing then it may be dehydrated, a tortoises body of designed to hold most of the water they consume so in times of draught they still have water, they do not wee all the time and can go a few weeks with out weeing it is only excess water that comes out,  if he is eating and active then i am sure your tortoise is ok, he is probably weeing but you just don't see it if the cage is moistened then yuo won't notic ethe wee, if you think there is a problem the bes tthing you can do is take your tortoise to a vet who knows tortoises and get him checked over but you will probably find your tortoise is weeing in the water as a bath relaxes the tortoise and 95% of the time they wee and poo in the bath.
