My Russian dwarf hamster is missing a patch of fur?

My male Russian dwarf hamster, Sieben, who is not even a year old yet (around 8 - 10 months old), is recovering from a case of severe diarrhea. I took him to the vet 6 days ago. He's been taking 0.05 cc of Trimeth Sulfa every 12 hours, along with being fed 1/2 cc of plain yogurt twice daily to replenish the good bacteria in his intestines that the antibiotic gets rid of and less than 1/2 cc of carrot or butternut squash baby food 1 - 2 times daily (I stopped doing it twice because he's started eating on his own again, as well as drinking; I was force feeding him water before now). The diarrhea seems to have gotten a lot better and his bottom is cleaner. He's been grooming himself, but he still has a bunch of baby food/yogurt/antibiotic that's stuck on him from squirming around while I was trying to give it to him. He has been on his wheel a bit, as well. Today, though, I noticed that on the side of his face there's a patch of fur missing.

  1. I have a russian dwarf hamster living now, but it has not gone through any of this, although it had a short case of diarrehea. The missing fur could have been caused by the medication or something it was eating, or it could have been something due to its squirming. You know, if it ran past the side of something quite hard. I am not sure though. Most likely the first suggestion. Hope this helped, but i am no vet so I can only hint you to what is going on.

  2. Your hamster could be having a little bit of an allergic reaction to the medication or yogurt and the butternut squash. You should consult your vet though, because this could become serious fast! Hope this helps :)

  3. then look for it!!
