  1. so you got an 1160? sounds about average to me. your not going to get into any schools solely on your SAT, but a score like that wont hurt you too bad either. as long as your high school transcript is ok your doing fine.

  2. Your score is a little above average. In total, you got a 1740. Not bad for your first time. If you didn't study for this test, then you should definitely spend some time studying and take the test again in the fall.

Another thing you should consider now that you have your score, is what colleges you want to get in to.

Ex. Harvard students get somewhere around a 2250, while NYU students average around a 1980.

Your score is not bad, but you should decide whether to retake it or not based on the type of college you want to get into.

  3. Do you have any schools that you're aiming to get into or that you're at least interested in?  Or what about a particular field that you want to go into?  You can compare your score to the average scores of those schools on websites like www.princetonreview.com or www.collegeboard.com.

As for particular fields, you can assume that for fields like science and math, one would need a math composite score that's on the higher end of the spectrum.  Higher is better with standardized tests, especially considering things like financial aid packages.  But what kind of score you need depends on the type of college you're interested in.  For example, are you looking at a public institution or a private one?  State school or Ivy League university?  Based on that, your scoring needs will also change.

Utilize your high school guidance counselor and have a talk with them.  They can help you sort out your goals, come up with some schools that fit you and that you can target for, and then you can see whether your current scores fit that picture or not.
