My SUV sounds like a go kart?

My 1999 Jeep Grand cherokee started making a loud rattling noise yesterday, sounds like a go-kart engine. At first I thought it was the muffler but it seems to be coming from the engine. It gets louder as the speed increases. Any thoughts??? thanks!

It could be your rods are knocking. Lets just hope a push rod is bent, otherwise, I think your motor is about to go. I really hope I am wrong. Could be as simple as needing plugs and wires, but I really doubt it.

Check to see if any of the heat shields on your exhaust system have broken their welds.  They do it all the time.
