Question:

My Samsung TV is broken, what should I do ?

In March last year a bought a new Samsung LE27T51B 27" HD Ready LCD-TV. I have been using as a computer monitor since.

I tried to switch it on and all I can see is a thin white line down the middle of the screen, that fades after a few seconds, then a two red line appear.

The warranty is not valid any more, so I'm not sure what to do.

Any ideas ?

  1. Sounds like a system board issue.  Probably cost $300 to fix.  Not much else you can do if you can't afford to fix.

  2. Well, first check the cables to make sure nothing came loose.

If you're sure it's the TV, you can still get it repaired, though I'm guessing it might be cheaper to just get a new TV altogether.

You can call Samsung to see if they recommend taking it to the shop, or shipping it to them for repairs - they'll charge you though since the set is out of warranty.  But then again, you never know.

Sorry to hear about the TV though.  I usually recommend Samsung LCDs for their quality.  Should definitely last longer than a year.

  3. get a new one

  4. The first thing I do when something doesn't work all of a sudden is to unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it in again. Often this resets the device and it works again. Always try this first with all electronic devices before trying to fix them.

  5. Throw the piece of c**p away!  I owned a Samsung DLP TV and couldn't get ANY service from anyone!  Everyone said it was doo-doo.  I believe them about ALL Samsung products.
