Question:

My Science Project Plant is secreting mucus in its roots!?

Today when I was measuring my plant I noticed that on 3/6 of the samples the plants near the roots had a thick mucus like substance on them. I'm wondering what is this exactly? Is the plant sick?

Any help is thanked!

Actually any links where I can find out more about it will also help a lot! (i have to write a formal write up about it)

THANKS!!

  1. Could you please give us the name of the plant you work with,

that makes it easier to find a correct answer.

    Thanks for the information.

I could imagine that this substance is resin, the branch develops to close its laceration where it`s cut.

Gardeners normally close the points of intersection with epoxy resin and if not done properly the cutting tries to do it by itself.

Under water the fresh pitch can`t dry but sponges up the water and swells up.

This is not more than a theory, I didn`t find a publication to approve.

If this substance crumples up, when taken out of the water, it might be a fungus.

Sorry for not to be more help!
