My Sony DCR-HC30E handycam connected to my pc with ilink cable does not get detected.what should I do?

  1. could be several reasons...

    1) It will not mount like a USB-connected mass storage device does. You access the miniDV tape (and import/export the video) through a video editing application which understands HDV.

    2) The camcorder needs to be in "Play" or "VCR" mode - this is the same mode it would be in if connected with the AV or HDMI cables to a TV.

    3) The firewire port on the camcorder is not working properly.

    4) The firewire cable is bad.

    5) The firewire port on the computer is bad - or the drivers not properly installed or if it was an added card and it is not seated properly in the expansion slot.

    6) The camcorder is in HDV mode - but the video editor you are using cannot handle HDV (MovieMaker cannot handle HDV).

    There may be others, but these are the easy ones...
