My Stimulus Check is not as much as I thought it would be?

I checked the status of my Stimulus Check on irs.gov and it said that I will be getting a $600 checked mailed by next week. I thought that if you claimed Head of Household and had one qualifying child, your would get $900?

  1. My daughter only got 300 for her qualified child.  She wasn't old enough to get her 600, even tho she made enough money.  She was pissed.

  2. Free money and you still whine. Go to work.

  3. 1.  (Most likely), you paid $300 or less in taxes, so you barely qualified for $300 for yourself.

    2.  You let the dad claim the child on his tax return (he would get the $300 for the child).

    3.  Your income was over $75,000 and you were hit with a phaseout.

  4. Depending on how much you made in 2007, you could either get $600 for yourself and $300 for the child - or, if you didn't make enough, you could get $300 for yourself and $300 for your child.

  5. You have to claim your child as a dependant to receive the $300.  If you made more then $75,000 last year the amount ($600) reduces on an escalating scale.

  6. Your income may be too low to get the full $600 for yourself.  Single people are eligible for a rebate of UP TO $600.  Most people, including the media, seem to be ignoring the UP TO part.

To get the full $600, you must have had a tax liability that was at least $600.  If your tax liability was below $300, you would only receive $300 plus the $300 for your child.  Look at it this way:  You are still getting back more that you paid in last year.
