Question:

My System Keeps Going Out. Help?

I have a Kicker Solobaric L7 (1500 Watt, 750 RMS). Powered by a Kicker ZX .1000 (1000 Watt RMS @ 2 OHMS) and a Stinger Hybrid Capacitor (5 Farard).

Now it is running at 2 OHMS. It worked fine the first week but now every time I try to cut it up it goes out and the capacitor starts beeping. Then the Power switch in the Amp keeps cutting on and off. So it is getting power then it isn't.

The Capacitor has an over voltage limit / low batter voltage limit warning. So that is why the capacitor is beeping. If it goes above 17 DCV or below 10 DCV it will go off.

But I can only have the volume on 4 and the bass down to -4 and it will still go off. Any help on what I should do? Please! Thank you!

  1. start to trouble shoot.

Check your wires,ground/power/remote first. It seems like you dont have a good ground right now. If your using a 4 gauge power, use the same gauge for the ground and make sure that it is to a good s***w. I personally use the battery ground since its for the whole car.

Still not working right? Try these

Try the system without the farad cap and see what happens.

If still not working then try another amp.

Still not working? Email me and Ill pick your brain a little more.

  2. According to the guys at Ohio Generator, you shouldn't even need a cap at only 1000 watts, let alone 5 farads, if you've got at leas a 12 volt alternator. But i'll venture a guess that either your battery or your alternator is going bad.

A 5 Farad cap would be a huge draw on your electrical system. When you turn your car off, that cap will continue to draw from your battery till it gets it's fill. Then the next time you get in your car (if it starts) your alternator has to work very hard to charge the battery back and meanwhile that cap is still drawing off that battery the whole time your sub amp is playing. So this can really shorten the life span of your other electrical equipment.

Get to an AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts and get them to do a check on your battery and alt....it's free.
