  1. It depends on what type of TV it is (ex. dlp, etc) If it is a DLP projection, it can be the lamp, ballast, color wheel,  light engine, or power capacitors. Check and see if the power light (or any type of lights) blink or change color when the tv powers up. I am referring to the lights that show you TV is on.

If it blinks or changes color, check with you owners manual or if you do not have it, find the model number (ex. HD50LPW175) on the TV (it should be on a sticker or plate with the serial number) and search the web for the manual for your model (most of the time you can download the manual on the manufactors web site.)

I had a lot of problems with my RCA HD 50" (to the point I will never buy a RCA product again)

If you have a lot of time, here is a forum for RCA TV http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/...

I spend hours here and my advice is to get a new one if it isn't a simple fix, and not a RCA. It took 11 months, 3 repairs and contacting BBB to get RCA to fix my new TV. RCA parts are almost always on back order so be prepaired to wait, the light engine cost nearly as much as the TV, and customer service is anything but service.  I have since got a SONY and couldn't be happier.
