My TV has a weird patch on the screen?

I turned on my TV(normal, not plasma or any of the ****) today & a quarter of the screen the color is not the same example when the whole screen is blue this section is red or black with green section. Whats wrong & how do I fix it?

  1. Perhaps you have a magnet near the screen. That will distort the picture. A speaker contains a magnet so take a look around your tv to see if something is causing the distortion.

    As to your follow up question. Some times the magnet will due perminent damage (depending on its strength). In your case, I don't think it will. Try removing the speakers, if the distortion goes away, then you are fine.

  3. The magnets from the speakers magnetized part of the screen.

    Most modern TV have a degaussing (demagnetizing) coil built in.  I operates when the TV is first turned on and will eventually take care of the problem.  If you want to hurry the process, turn the TV on and off a few times.  Note that you must wait about 20 minutes between cycles to let the circuit reset.

    You could also get a degaussing coil and demagnetize the screen yourself or have a TV Repair guy do it for a small fee.
