  1. Hi, it's good that you are taking precautions and seeing your vet about the parvo shots.

Many of the most dangerous and infectious canine diseases we know of can be easily prevented with safe and effective vaccines.  Canine parvovirus is one of them.

Canine parvovirus is one of the most common and hardest-to-kill viruses in the world, and every species has its unique version. Eighty percent fatal, it is a tough virus that can survive on objects, such as furniture, for some time. And it can kill in a matter of days. Maternal antibodies interfere with the vaccine's effectiveness early on, and there's often a window of vulnerability, different for every puppy, that falls between the end of the period of genetic immunity and the beginning of the vaccine's protection. Only a vet can determine how early and how often your dogs may need this vaccine.

  2. Oh Dear!

I would definitely call your vet!  Usually when the dogs are older Parvo is not a big concern.  Your dogs are not at high risk.  But if the pup was in your home then your home is now contaminated with the parvo virus.  This means you will have to clean your home from top to bottom with a bleach & water mixture of 50% bleach & 50% water to kill the virus in your home.

Even with that I would not allow anyone who has an unvaccinated pup or dog into your home for quite some time.  Parvo can live in the environment for up to a year sometimes longer.

First thing to do is to call your vet and tell them what is going on.  Then get to cleaning your home!

  3. If your dogs are all adults and current with their vaccines, than you should be okay. It is not common for an adult dog to get parvo. Parvo is geared more towards puppies. I would recommend however, that you scrub down your home with a bleach solution to kill any of the virus that you or your dogs may have brought home with them.
