Question:

My Tivo can't connect to my wireless network automatically.?

The only way it will connect is if I unplug and replug in the router, and connect to it by going through the menus and selecting "Connect Now." The error messages I get are Failed while configuring, Failed to negotiate, n17, n18, n19, or just "Failed." The Tivo clearly recognizes my router because when I go into the settings menu, I see the IP address, MAC ID, DNS, etc. There is no password required for the router. I have a Tivo brand wireless adapter. Router is a D-link DI 524. ISP is Comcast. I have spent a lot of time on the phone with the Tivo people, who say it's the router's fault. This obviously can't be true, as the the Tivo recognizes and can connect to the router when I tell it to. I haven't called D-Link because they charge $30 per phone call. There is also nothing in the Tivo forums/boards related to my problem. This is really annoying me since the whole point of the Tivo is that is does things for you. The program info runs out, so the Tivo can't find the shows to record.

  1. Go to the D-Link web site and download the latest firmware for your router.  There is a reason these guys provide new firmware every 2-3 months: lots of bugs!

Your problem does look it is router related.

Having a non-secure home network is not a good idea, so do put a password.
