I have 6 full grown tomato plants and all are bearing tomatoes....however most of the tomatoes are brown and flat on the bottom...is this some kind of fungus...or disease? This is the first year I have grown tomatoes, so any help from the expert would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

  1. Sounds like it might be blossom end rot.  Is the bottom kind of squishy?  This occurs when tomatoes are deficient in calcium.  It may be a lack of calcium in the soil, or it may just be that the mineral is not getting to the plant because of fluctuations in  watering.  Mulch will help keep the soil from drying out.  Removing the affected fruit will help the rest develop normally.

  2. seems like it

  3. B Anne is right, it sounds like blossom end rot.  Just pluck off those tomatoes.  Make sure the plants are well-watered all the time.  Fertilize as needed.  Any more that grow wthout the symptoms will be just fine.

BER is quite common and even occurs in greenhouses.  Plants you buy from stores with green tomatoes already on them tend to develop BER as well.
