My Toshiba satalite freeze on the first screen...

Question

My laptop toshiba satalite was working fine but since last week it began to freeze while im working and stop responding till i restart it again. I used the recovery media succefully and then it works properly fine for 2 weeks and again it become slow and lastly stop responding.. and never could start windows it just stuck in the screen labled with windows xp and refusing ot open everytime i try.. i used the Recovery CD but this time after loading it , the screen with options of using win normally..and with last good Config , it says u cannot start windows because the file system 32/config is missing and u can attemp to repair it with pressing R in the first screen..
can u help me which first screen they mean and is this the only way to recover back my lovely PC?
